Marion Wayne Reed, a beloved figure in the Hamlin and McCaulley communities, passed away on January 30, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on December 21, 1947, in Rotan, Texas, Marion dedicated his life to serving others, both through his career, his deep commitment to God and family.
As the owner of Reed Service and Farm Store in Hamlin, Marion was not only a businessman but also a farmer who understood the land and its people. His passion for agriculture and service was evident in every aspect of his life. For forty years, he served on the Sylvester/McCaulley water board, where his insights and dedication were invaluable to the community's resource management. Additionally, he was a member of the McCaulley School Board for fifteen years, significantly contributing to the education and well-being of children in the area.
Marion was not only active in the community but also possessed a warm and engaging personality. He loved to talk about his grandchildren and cherished the time spent with his family. A dedicated Christian man, he served as a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Hamlin for an impressive 29 years. His faith was the foundation of his life, guiding his actions and permeating his relationships with others.
Marion is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Stone Reed, who was his steadfast partner through the years. He is also survived by his daughter, Stephanie and Bryce Daniel, and son, Bradley Wayne and Tisha Reed. Marion was a proud grandfather to Callen Reed Stewart (London) and John Bradley Reed, with whom he shared countless joyful moments and memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edd and Doris (Carriker) Reed, who undoubtedly shaped the compassionate and hardworking man he became. His sister, Mary Priscilla (Pris) Hamilton, also preceded him in death.
A visitation to celebrate Marion's life was held at Adams-Foster-Ray Funeral Home in Hamlin, Texas on February 3, 2026 at 6:00 PM. A graveside service followed on February 4, 2026, at McCaulley Cemetery in McCaulley, Texas, at 2:00 PM.
The legacy of Marion Wayne Reed will live on through the lives he touched, and he will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
